Each of the five films found in this section of the site focuses on a single facet of the musical life of the Kraton Yogyakarta. All of the video footage incorporated into these films was shot during a visit to Yogyakarta in March 2007. Still images worked into the films were taken between 1982 and 2007 during research visits to Java.<\/p>\n
The intended purpose of these films is to provide a more multi-sensorial encounter of palace gamelans in the cultural landscape of palace life than is possible through written text alone, even when that text is supplemented with audio recordings.<\/p>\n
The video footage and many of the still images were taken on a handheld Panasonic PV-GS500 digital video camcorder. The films were produced on iMovie software.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
