Sliding rings surrounding pairs of these laces allow the performer to adjust the tension and pitch of the drumheads. The shell is shaped like a truncated cone, but with a slight bulge near the wider end of the drum. Rests horizontally on a stand and is sounded with the performer\u2019s hands. It is sounded alone or in combination with a <em>kendhang ketipung<\/em> (this pairing called <em>kendhang loro\/kalih<\/em>).
