Strings are paired in double courses and plucked with the performer\u2019s long thumbnails. It is tuned an octave higher than the <em>clempung<\/em>. Most <em>siter<\/em> are strung on both faces of their box resonators, one side tuned to <em>sl\u00e9ndro<\/em> and the other to <em>p\u00e9log. <\/em>\u00a0So, even when two gamelans are set up together (one <em>sl\u00e9ndro, <\/em>the other <em>p\u00e9log), <\/em>only one <em>siter<\/em> is present.
