This film documents performances on the archaic gamelans K.K. Maésaganggang (a gamelan kodhok ngorèk) and K.K. Gunturlaut (a gamelan monggang) at Sitihinggil Lor as part of the Grebeg Mulud ceremony on March 31, 2007. During the segments that in turn focus on these two pusaka gamelans, the contribution of each instrument to the composite sound of its ensemble can be seen and heard. The sounds of these gamelans are often overlaid with the music of passing bragada prajurit (“palace guard units”), providing the viewer with a fine example of the Javanese/Indonesian ideal of ramai, denoting a bustling, noisy, festive social setting.
